My all-time favorite author is Patrick Rothfuss.

After that... Hmmm, I'd have a hard time picking my next favorites. I like Tolkien, Tamora Pierce, Diana Wynne Jones, Jonathan Stroud, Elizabeth Peters, ... and a lot of others. :)

Garth Nix who did the Abhorsen series
1) Sabriel - Excellent in every way possible for me
2) Lirael - A drag but nessicarry for the third book
3) Abhorsen - Excellent conclusion
4) Across the wall - a ministory for the series plus other short stories.
