The Yu-Gi-Oh! bunkoban releases compile together the original manga in fewer volumes, for a series of reprints. As is usual with 'bunko' releases, the manga is printed on higher quality paper, with special redesigned covers and more chapters in each volume. The Yu-Gi-Oh! bunkoban releases also contain special features, afterwords by Kazuki Takahashi, Tarot cards from the Major Arcana featuring Yu-Gi-Oh! characters and Tarot explanations by 'CoZo'. Notably, there were also some changes made to art and dialogue in the chapters themselves.

Malik is called 'Maric'.
...I like it.
This is wonderful.

Any thoughts?
I've been reading a fic that turns each YGO Tarot card into a story. It's pretty interesting. The cover artwork is fantastic in these bunkoban, though. I love it. Takahashi's outdone himself with these.

Am I the only one who hates songfics?

It's one thing to note at the beginning or end of the story that you were inspired by a certain song, or even to name the story after the song, but it really annoys me when the author goes and slips the lyrics in between the paragraphs of the story. Throwing the lyrics in irreparably destroys the syntax and distracts the reader from your actual writing. Oh god, it's even worse when they have characters actually sing the song.

If you like the song that much, make a damn AMV.

It's completely possible to write a story that centers around a song without turning it into a songfic. Just the other day, I was on Hetalia Kink Meme and someone wanted a story that used "So Happy I Could Die" by Lady Gaga. I could have made it ridiculous by doing the things I noted above, but instead I just used it as inspiration for the plot line. It's better (and easier) to infuse a story with a song rather than crudely carve the song into the story.

/rage end.

Songfics are technically not even allowed on ff.net (but so is porn and they don't do anything about that anymore). I do hate songfics as well for basically all the reasons you said.

Yeah, I've had NC-17 fics up on ff.net for a long time and I've never had any of them taken down. I guess someone just has to be a jerk and flag your story for the ff.net admins to give any sort of a crap.

I don't understand exactly why they don't allow NC-17 fics anymore. I mean, if a little child willingly chooses to search for, open, and read a fic that's rated NC-17, that's their own damn fault. If the admins are really that paranoid about lawsuits, they could just make NC-17 fics unavailable to users who enter an age lower than 18 when they register for an account. It wouldn't take more than 10 minutes to program a mechanism that checks for something like that.

People can easily lie about their age though. It is more the parents not monitoring their kids but really, written porn isn't going to do anything to them. Sex isn't bad but that is a completley different rant. They can avoid lawsuits by simply putting a disclaimer on their website that there may be some sexual/violent/whatever content anyway. I don't really think it is much of a legal thing more than a we can't be fucked thing.

There is adultfanfiction.net but not many people use that anymore.

I've been told that LiveJournal has a better fanfiction community but I've never really gotten into it much. Most I've ever done is the Hetalia Kink Meme, which has been pretty ridiculously dumb lately. Every other request is Mpreg or US/UK (or both). Or genderbending.

Which leads me to my next rant...how can people find Mpreg and genderbending attractive? I...I just don't understand. Is it some weird form of a humiliation fetish?

Oh it totally does but you still get the crap. Just less crap. The most I've done for fanfiction was non-explicit sex which apparently made a lot of people uncomfortable because of oh no gay sex (not people in the yugioh fandom. irl people). My original writing though. Different story.

Genderbending is better with art or AUs. I've only seen a couple good genderbends that weren't AUs in any fandom.

What I dislike about genderbending in fanfiction is that it usually indicates that the story is going to be centered around that character's gender. All of a sudden, [Character A] having boobs makes [Characters B-Z] need to sex her immediately. It's just the author catering to his/her own amusement, which is something I generally dislike in writing.

I don't mind genderbend fics if it has a good plot and keeps the characters IC.

And ugh, I hate fandom mpreg too.

Pretty much this.

God, mpreg is just bad. I've said it before but I've read one decent mpreg but it involved magic or something like that to first of all make Atem's reproduction system able to hold a child, Atem wasn't all like "yay! Baby!", he had to get a C-section in the end and the person did a lot of research on pregnancy. However most the time in fandom, it is a teenage girl who doesn't know anything about anything that writes it making it awful.

I'm pretty sure Atem's baby died in the fic (or he gave it up for adoption. idk). But yep, it is a bad plot device for what you just said or even better, to bring in a wonderful little OC.

Ugh, yeah that too. And I hate mpreg with Bakura, Malik, Ymalik, Kaiba especially because they seem to think all of them would be great and loving fathers. :|

Oh Jesus christ. Bakura and YMalik would probably kill the child while it is still in the uterus (or whatever they hold a child in with mpreg) or if they did have a child, just not give a fuck about it. Kaiba would neglect it and Malik pre-BC would be shit with a child and post-BC he would still probably be shit with a child because of his family background.

A lot of the ygo characters wouldn't make too good of fathers actually. Yuugi probably would though.

Either way, mpreg should just stay out of fandom.

I dislike song fics because the lyrics always interrupt the flow of the fic (which is usually crap, anyway), there's no 'proper' way to interrupt your writing and place random lyrics in, it just doesn't work out well, don't do it.

Genderbend is only acceptable in artwork and AUs, I will never accept it in a fic that's based in the original YGO canon, it just doesn't work. I read one fanfic once where TKBakura was a woman and the author's justification was all "I was the thief king, no one could see me, much less figure out my gender!"... Yeah, except for when he barged into the pharaoh's throne room, you'd think you'd notice something like that. Sigh. (Although I myself am writing an AU fic that involves Fem!YMalik so I suppose my opinion is invalid here)

Mpreg, no, never, ever ever ever. No.
